Morgan Consulting Resources, Inc., an executive search firm, has been retained by The Heritage, a life care retirement community, to perform a search for the Director of Nursing (DON), a position based in San Francisco, California.
The Heritage has been a local landmark in San Francisco for over 80 years. They are a nonprofit corporation owned and operated by the San Francisco Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society, one of Northern California’s oldest philanthropic institutions. Founded in 1853 to assist women and children left homeless in the wake of the gold rush, the organization has consistently maintained a mission of dedicated service to the community. The Heritage is a lovely facility in an excellent neighborhood, located on part of the land of the 1915 World’s Fair in San Francisco; a facility that has been lovingly maintained. They have expanded from their original mission into a multi-level experience; a life care center with independent living (IL) and assisted living (AL) facilities. Their small 32-bed Skilled Nursing wing allows them to provide very personalized care. There is an ambulatory medical clinic available, health and wellness activity programs and a brand new exercise facility. They are committed to superior patient care and take pride in their staff: resident ratio of 4:4/4:6 exceeding the state requirement of 3:2. They are a Title 22 facility.
The Heritage is a fast-paced environment, requiring someone who is motivated and excited about contributing ideas and input on how to make the facility a better place. This position reports to the Executive Director, Marla Hastings.
The Professional we seek for this position must be compassionate and dedicated and someone who loves the residents. A BSN is required along with three to five years experience in the skilled nursing /long term care environment. Also required is a minimum of three to five years experience as a nurse with at least one year of experience in nursing supervision in the past five years. We seek someone who is staff oriented and exhibits a high level in leadership and management skills, demonstrates excellent communication skills and has the ability to collaborate with internal and external contacts. This position requires a leader who has successfully led his or her staff toward providing the highest quality of care and quality of life for the residents. It is important to the staff that the DON promotes open discussion of issues and involves them in appropriate nursing committees and processes.
The Director of Nursing will possess clinical nursing knowledge in the care of older adults and geriatric specific nursing care. The DON should be experienced in facilitating compliance with local, state and federal regulations, such as Title 22, OBRA, CA Dept. of Public Health, SNF and Fire. The successful candidate will have fundamental knowledge of quality improvement processes and systems and the ability to integrate the processes into the daily care delivery systems at The Heritage.
